Many people have inquired on the message board about the Rob Roy/Sunseeker 23 Since I own a Sunseeker I will confine my comments to the Sunseeker 23 Sloop rig Marine Concepts the small Co that builds the Sunseeker is a virtual Manufacturer. Since they use many different contractors to build their boats construction vairies widely. I found the construction of the hull on my boat to be satisfactory but the cabin was built of a non marine grade plywood. This is a good looking shoal draft boat of narrow beam and light displacement. The boat a canoe stern modified sharpie was designed by Ted Brewer. It has in my opinion adequite ballast to make it self righting. There is no styrofoam floatation. The Sunseeker points high and is fast off the wind. It will sail to weather in less than 2 feet of water. The boat is slow turning on tacks mostlikely due to its long shallow keel I found the rudder to be troublesome and unnecessarily heavy. The tiller that came with the boat was much to short and had to be replaced. The boat sails well in light air with standard working sail but needs a reef at 15kts. The boat has a large cockpit and can daysail 8 people comfortably. The outboard is in a well at the aft end of the cockpit. My 4hp mariner moves the boat at 5 knots 3/4 throttle The boat has a v berth with a space for a porta pottie in between and 2 large 1/4 berths There is no built in galley but there is room to store a portable one in one of the 1/4 berths. The rig is a solidly built low aspect: No spreaders or backstay and with its quick release head stay fitting is easy to set up and launch The boat is easy to trailer due to its light displacement 2400 LBS. Conclusions: This is a good coastal day sailer overnighter. Solidly built and adequite for its intended use. But its narrow like all sharpies, and with its shallow draft tender. I find its heavy air performance to be lacking. I know of an owner that sailed one of these boats from Casco Bay to Roque Island: hs`s braver than me Bob
