IMHO I consider the rudder below the water line as a continuation of the hull, and should be treated with the same color. It also means buying a different bottom paint. There is no quantative basis for this opinion, except that some NA like Ted Brewer include 2/3 of a shaped rudder in the WLW length to calculate max hull speed. On the Texas coast the water is so "HOT" we have to use the paint with the most CU in it, which means Pettit Trinidad which in red. Your boat looks great whatever the rudder color.
I felt that you were drawn to that BW 14' and the price seemed right. Who got it? I would like to look at it myself. Life is complex for a "boathead".
