Really? Mine is covered with both glass and gel coat

And of course bottom paint. I know this for a fact as I had to do a repair last spring. It appeared that water had intruded and over the winter a 4" round piece of this glass popped, probably due to freezing. The "material" which had glass fiber in it was about 1/2" thick. It appeared that under this glass may be a type of fairing compound as well?
