There was about 8 feet of snow at the high tide line. Temps on that 2 week trip were in the low 70's (high) during the day and below freezing at night. The first morning at anchor, I woke to a horrible crunching sound against the hull. Scurried on deck to find it was just ice that formed over night (fresh snowmelt) and the tidal currents were moving it. A little sketchy breaking ice in the zodi headed for shore to walk the dog. It was my best cruise ever.
Prince William Sound gets copious amounts of snow. If I don't shovel my boat every week it will sink due to the weight of the snow. Spring is a great time of the year, lots of snow lots of daylight too. The snow melts really fast due to the daylight and rain. Barely any snow by June.
I used to dream about sailing around the world.....now I just dream about cruising around the sound and not working for the summer. There is more coastline on the sound than all of Ca and Or. Skiing, fishing, hiking, shrimping. A great place to cruise, just a little wet.
