Amory, I like the idea of using fiberglass panel. Replacing with wood again will leave the problem of rot for the future. Filling entirely with epoxy could be difficult due to the exothermic reaction of so much epoxy being poured into one area(unless you do multiple pours) that much epoxy seems to be an expensive solution. fiberglass panels will supply a premade structure that can be further reinforced with additional epoxy to make up the difference and hold the whole construction together. Any other materials might not have the properties required. The only other material would be reinforced polyester resin. Polyester is less expensive. just my 2cents. I have not decided yet myself.
