Is it the best alternative though? I have tried many differnt things on the various Catalinas we have refurbished, some things have worked better than others. BoatLife(poysulfide based) seems to work the best, BoatCaulk(silicone based) is a bad choice as it doesn't let go. I think I even tried 3M 4200 once, but I don't have that boat anymore to tell you how it worked. 5200 is a VERY bad choice as it almost never lets go. I was looking for a balance of a flexible sealer and one that would would allow a fairly easy release of the wood when I wanted to remove it.

The cork concerns me as I don't think it would seal all that well based on the expansion and contraction of the deck.

IMHO of course.
