The problem with leaks is where they start from. Older boats often have had leaks through the outer skin which may show up anywhere in the cabin depending on the integrity of the balsa core. I had a soft spot on the deck up by the mast step. I acquired a botle of penetrating epoxy drilled a couple of holes through he outer skin of the deck and pumped it in!! Surprise! it ran out around the windows on the port side. During my working life we had an engineer on one ship complaining, (and rightly so) of a leak in the overhead of his cabin. We eventually found the leak through the upper deck 150' away! Topside leaks can be very tricky to find and fix.
