i've sailed LIS, great south bay, peconic and gardiner's for decades. my humble opinion is that w/s is great if you race, if you get a kick out of electronics, and/or if you want to spend money. but in the real world of just getting out and enjoying whatever wind there is, and on LIS that's always a guess and a challenge, you know the difference between wind and no wind. you also know where it's coming from. give me a good gps for speed over the ground, a davis masthead wind direction vane and, if w/s is so important, for a couple of bucks you can get a pretty accurate handheld gadget that will give you all the information you want.
