For those that are interested:
New engine is now inside the boat waiting for installation. Old engine is in my truck. It took two planks each made of two 2 x 6 x 16 boards screwed together used as a ramp. Two guys in the cockpit pulling on a line tied to the engine and routed around a cleat for friction in case of trouble. Two more guys, one on each side of the ramp, each on a ladder, guiding the engine up the ramp. Then we used a couple of 2 x 6 x 12s in the cockpit and through the companionway to slide the engine down below using the companionway as a fulcrum. The whole job was took half a morning and five strong people.
As an aside: When we removed the fuel tank I used the auxillary engine fuel pump to pump most of the fuel out of the tank, through the Racor filter, into plastic jugs, and into my diesel Land Cruiser that has its own big Racor. I would guess about three gallons remained in the tank. As I carryed the tank to the truck one could hear solids rattling around in the remaining fuel. I poured a little out through the large filler hole - out came some ice and the remaining fuel was black.
Today I will take the tank to my machine shop buddy to finish emptying it and build an inspection port. I'm curious what we will see when we cut the hole.
