Need source for wire in mast compression post

Report: outside forum guidelines

I need to replace the wire in the mast compression post that runs from the mast step to the bilge. I had asked what this was for and got some differing responses, but I am going to assume it is to channel a lightning strike to the keel. The original cable was quite beefy, and I want to keep it that way. I found a 10 foot roll of 2 awg cable at jamestown distributors for about $35. Anyone have any other suggestions? Also I thought I would use some spade connectors at either end to keep it clean, rather than the wire filaments twisted under the keel nuts. Any comments?
