Dave,

The factory manual states it is a 1/2 inch ID nipple. The volcano buildup on the inside will prevent the installation of a proper seacock. Grinding this area out, installing a backing plate to provide a level surface on the inside and (re)installing a scoop on the outside is best. reusing the existing nipple will mean that you will probably be using a ball valve and end up with a weak install. If you go this route at least get a marine ball valve. The right way is not easy and the easy way is not right. Personally, I would not take a chance with a hard to reach hole in the bottom of my boat. As long as you are doing the work you could even move it to a more accessible location. Glass in the old hole and drill a new one.
