Hello All,
New to this forum, and wanted to say thanks to you that ask and post replys! Kinda what I've been looking for.
I recently, well last Fall, purchased a '76 Cat 27. I was hoping to have her in the water this season, but my daughter moved her wedding date up a year to August and there goes my $$. I'll take the time to be doing more extensive work than I had planned and hope to launch next year.
So far we've pulled off: all the woodwork including the forward placed port dinette, all the deck fittings, pulled the A-4 gas engine and it's leaking gas tank, the exhaust and fuel line systems, some of the wiring, all the tanks, an dropped the rudder. So, it's basically down to the hull inside and out.
We'll need to add most of the the mods to things like backing plates, keel bolts, etc. as none of that seems to have been done so far. The mast has some corrosion issues I'm concerned about, but from what I've read are probably doable. We'll also need sails, and am considering roller furling but haven't made up my mind there yet.
We paid a fair price and also got a trailer that was only 2 years old and built for a 32' boat. That made it hard to resist as a package. We live in Spokane WA and will be sailing initially fresh water on Lake Pend Orielle in northern Idaho. Down the road maybe a nortwest passage sail to AK to visit family???
Progress will be slow until fall, when I hope to have a new shop to put it into, then things will really ramp up. In the mean time I'll be reading lots and asking some questions.
I attached a pict with her sitting next to our Chrysler 22, the last project.
