Planning on switching the jib cleats on my '72 C27, hull #182, from the original horn cleat to a cam cleat, and have a couple questions.
1) I'll install a riser under the cam cleat to meet the sheet at a better height coming off the primary winch. Does the riser need to be angled? Is a level riser a disadvantage? Would love to hear opinions if you have this set up.
2) I've got some System Three SilverTip to fill the old bolt holes from the horn cleats; the new cam cleats don't line-up with the old holes. I've never used this epoxy system and don't know whether to use MagicGel or EZFillet--anyone used them who can advise?
3) Since the cleat bolts don't go through the deck into the cabin (they enter the coaming boxes) do I need to drill larger holes, fill with epoxy, then bolt on the cams, or can the cams be bolted directly through the coaming without the larger holes, filled with epoxy first?
Thanks for your advice on these questions and anything else I may have overlooked about making this change.
