I don't know. I think that what you have is better than those little 2 prong things, but all I can suggest is to try and clean all contacts and see if there is any improvement. If you can use a multimeter or even a simple 12v automotive type test light to see how far the juice makes it when the problem occurs, it would at least give you an idea what's going on.
