i put in an inspection port big enough to get my hand in and then scrubbed/rinsed/scrubbed/rinsed to get out as much goop as possible. (this needs a lot of sealant to make it a leak-proof fit.) follow up with the bleach rinse regime and then replace all of the hoses. this should give you at least one season of decent water. my feeling is that the water in the tank is good for washing, showering, and cooking (if you boil) and that's about it. bottled water is best for drinking.
