Hi Dave,
This hatch is reinforced for walking strength and does well. It has a rubber O-ring for water tightness, and heavy-duty locking clasps.
No other reinforcing was done.
It costs about $80 from West Marine. See page 554 in the current catalog, model 8709669 (13" x 23").
Well worth it for the aformentioned reasons.
