I went back over to the boat yesterday afternoon and spent the evening. Upon further investigation, mine has a pin that is removed, then you twist it counter-clockwise about a 1/2 inch which unlocks it, then you pull up. I didn't go as far as making the final pull, but may do that today. I thought of the fouling as well, but just cleaned my boat bottom about a month ago and usually get away with every two months cleaning. I went ahead and jumped in yesterday and swam down to look at the underside of the transducer, but from what I could see (only about 6" visibility in Bayou Chico) there wasn't any unusual growth.
I'll report back later today if I go forward with the pull to better inspect the unit.
Thanks again.
