Hi Allen,
Yes, the hatch is large enough to get the engine through. That is why we did it, for and easy installation of a rebuilt engine.
The rebuild involved buying a complete rebuilt engine, and then having someone install it. I went through a private party which was $$$$s less than Moyer (bless his helpful heart!).
Carb is still hard to access, and no exhaust mods were made.
The biggest benefit is that I can reach down and tighten my packing nut in a second anytime I want to.
