mid boom traveler & solid vang?

I have an older C27 (1972) and a mid boom traveler; I have no problem reaching the traveler lines without releasing the tiller.
Also, if Ed happens to see this: what solid vang set-up did you go with? That looks very nice. I'd love to add a solid vang and retire the topping lift once and for all. Any info appreciated.
