trim piece at forward end of sliding hatch

The wood trim piece was starting to come off, so I removed it. There is a white plastic piece that sits under it and seems to be some kind of splash guard which was coming out and is beyond repair. It doesnt seem like it does a whole lot of water protection. Should I replace it or just put the wood trim back alone? If I replace the plastic, is there anything I can use that is readily available? Thanks
