Recently got a new SunCat and every time I go out I have more questions about it. Hope y'all can help.
1. When the sail is down, with the gaff sitting on the boom it seems to me that all the line needed for the peak halyard is in use. On my SunCat I have about 35' of line left over. I'm guessing someone at Hutchins measured too much line but before I cut it to get rid of the clutter I want to make sure I am not missing something. How much line do other SunCats have extra when the gaff is down?
2. The mainsheet, when let all the way out, comes to an end with the boom 6" to 8" away from the stay. It seems like I should be able to let the boom out further when on a run. (That is the correct term for when the wind is at your back isn't it?) What's it like on other SunCats?
I guess what I am asking here is - what are the correct measurements for the length of the mainsheet and the peak halyard?
3. The SunCat has cleats for and aft. When tying up, the only place I can hang bumpers is the handrail on the cabin top which doesn't give enough spread to protect the sides. The obvious thing is for me to mount a couple more cleats along the sides but that would mean DRILLING HOLES IN MY NEW BOAT!!! How have others handled this?
4. I have been trailering about thirty miles to the landing with the rudder mounted and locked in the raised position. It pokes out a bit but seems to me like it should be OK to trailer like that. What do y'all think?
I have a lot more questions but will stop for now to keep this post from getting too long.
Loooooove my SunCat
Thanks to all,
Charlie and Isy
