Thanks again to everyone for taking time to respond. Amazing how much know how is out there.
The responses to my question about reefing lead to my next question. While we were at the Miami boat show we saw a sail cradle system made by Sail Care. It works just like lazy jacks but uses shock cords attached to the mast that hook onto the boom. It looked good to me and Rich from Hutchins recommended it. I ordered the kit. It appears to be quality materials and construction but the instructions say it is not designed to be deployed while sailing or to be used as a topping lift. The cords that attach to the boom are supposed to be unhooked and secured to the mast while sailing. Soooo, that means going forward to get the cords when reefing or lowering the sails. It looked like a good setup to my newbie self when I saw it demonstrated but it sure seems like being able to use the lazy jacks as a topping lift would be a big help sometimes. Has anyone seen this sail cradle system and if so what do you think? I am starting to think this may not be what I want.
Thanks to all,
Charlie
