Just got back from a trip to Sturbridge,Mystic Seaport,& Newport. A really great trip! Took a short sail around Mystic harbor on the "Breck Marshall", a wooden replica of a 22' Crosby catboat circa the 20's. Its construction was partially financed by the Catboat Association and built at Mystic. It is the pic below. Mystic is not to be missed by any sailor, especially Catboaters. The collection of historic boats is fantastic and catboats are everywhere! At Newport we took a sail on the schooner "Acquidnick" and got to see some famous J and 12 meter class Americas Cup boats like Columbia, Intrepid, Enterprise and Dame Patty. We will get out on one of them next time! For those who have not been to Newport, it is worth the trip! In addition to being the sailing capitol of the US(Annapolis fans may disagree!), it has the largest number of original colonial houses in the country, "Guilded Age" mansions, fabulous restaurants, and fantastic shopping. We are planning on returning sometime after Labor Day when things should quiet just a bit. Last weekend was the start of the Bermuda race and the locals said you could practically walk across the harbor boat-to-boat!
