The long pin (link) (Tom Ray) the suncat manual states that the only reason for the existance of the long pin is to be used to keep the sail,boom&gaff from creeping up the mast past the hinge when lowering the mast.for extra room under the boom when anchored i pull the boom up the mast with the throat halyard,extend the height of the gallows with a boom crutch.plus use a quick release snap on the traveler block,so you can move the mainsheet out of the way.wrap it around the boom when parked.
