Mark, West Marine actually had a very cheap solution. They sell a 4 gallon plastic container that has a on/off valve and hose attachment. With the same size hose that runs from the seacock to the impeller...you attach the containers hose, open the valve, and start the engine. The container gravity feeds liquid to the water pump and flushes out the entire engine. I let it run for at least five minutes in order to open the thermostat. This process works even though my arms have a heck of a time getting to the hose clamp below the intake pipe on the water pump. I do the same thing to winterize the engine using pink antifreeze...works great!
