It does look like your gooseneck is missing a pin. Compare yours to the photo below. You need that pivot pin to connect everything. Regarding your question about what holds up the aft end of the boom, there was a discussion about that and it can be found in the Clipper Marine archives on this site. You will benefit if you learn how to use that resource. I'll save you the trouble of searching just this once, if this link works (click on the line under the photo): I'm also going to post another photo that sorta shows the gosseneck in action, but since we can only post one photo per post (normally), I'll put it in the next post.
