Plenty of headroom there. I'm only 5'9", so my taller crew have to stoop a bit, but hey, I'm comfortable! This boat in the picture could handle NBA people, from the looks of it.
To answer your question, Dave, yes, some people even prefer to raise the mast from the bow. I've never tried it, and probably never will, because it seems to me that the negatives out-weigh the positives, but to each his own. Apparently it's a viable option. Another approach is a stub mast, and that's probably what I'm going to do if I ever get around to it. It's basically just a small platform that brings the hinge point high enough to clear the cabin. Come to think of it, don't you doghouse drivers have a similar problem? Is the cabintop low enough that it's not an issue?
