Sure, track stops have been around forever, and work fine, are cheap, etc.
I'm going to disagree that installing a slug and then tightening the nut is quicker and easier than just sticking a pin in a hole, but I'd say the significance of the difference is minute. To each his own, many ways to skin a cat, etc.
I have not tried either one myself, but I've seen a suggestion that says instead of shelling out for a commercial track stop like the one in the picture below, you can just use an appropriately sized flathead screw with a wingnut. I don't know what's supposed to keep the screw from turning, maybe just friction is enough,...
Another point: I will take this opportunity to emphasize the point I was making in the earlier discussion: whatever hardware you choose to use, you will do yourself a big favor if you go to the extra trouble to attach it with a tether.
