That makes sense.
I guess what's really driving me nuts (or should I say 'knuts') is how the boom was supported on MY boat before I bought it. I guess I need to root around the pile in my garage for some clue. The mast is currently erected, the backstay does not have a pigtail, and there's no sign of a topping lift.
What there are signs of, is that the boat has been used . . . o' plenty. So someone had a way of dealing with this. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
The boat I trained on (a Columbia 22) used a pigtail. I guess that's easier to install then a topping lift, at least until I have a better idea what I'm doing. Although I like the idea of a topping lift better.
As for the archive, I have taken a crack at it, and I was disappointed to see the pictures gone (I understand that the server can't afford the luxury of saving them indefinitely).
So with that, I guess I have enough information to try to install the boom and raise the mainsail, after I un-tweak the pigtail connector.
BTW, I went to the Portland boatshow, which is winding up today, and (naturally) found my dreamboat. All I need is to raise $370k! Can you loan me a few bucks?
