Speaking of the winch...

All of the really bad times(and there have been few) that I've had with Gusto over the last 15+ years I've had her have been because of the winch,or cable or keel. when I first got her, the wire broke on the second voyage across Alcova lake in Wyoming. My wife and I were stranded greenhorns on an Island right in front of the marina with the keel stuck in the mud. Than a few weeks later the pully that the wire go's over froze up and the wire sawed throught that. The wire broke a few more times before the winch broke and broke my hand. Now I double check everything everytime I go out and I still worry that Murphy is my first officer. I wish I had the "handiness" to do away with the pully(which is rigged with whatever looked like it would work from home depot) and that trailor winch. I would like something that didn't require the cable to bend over a pully and would pull the keel wire & keel staight up. P.S. forgive my errors
