Hi steve, my computer has been off line for several days so I haven't been keeping up. The answer to your question is yes! There is a round inspection port that unscrews to give access to the winch. It's mounted just under the step in front of the companionway, the mainsheet traveler is just aft of the port. Under the cockpit floor is a vertical 3/4 plywood stiffener that the winch is mounted onto, What i did was to have a 7/8" stainless deep socket welded to the winch handle, or rather the winch nut and the handle has just the 1/4" square deal that fits the socket. The whole thing works very nice.

I would be glad to take some pictures of the whole deal if I can e-mail them to someone. I never found out how to get them onto the forum.

Let me know , tom
