Hi Jake, that was my first idea on my boat, to use a piece of 1" stainless
pipe and fit into it a piece of 3/4 " and put a pin in it. But the one I had on the boat turned out to be 7/8 " and wouldn't quite fit into the 1".
I instead had the single piece of 7/8" made 6' long so two feet of it will go down into the bilge, when down the mast will be closer to the stern rail, just pull the quick pin and lift it up and put the pin back in simple enough.
Remember the crutch has a roller on top and the sides extend up past the roller about 4" so the mast will not fall off when moveing it fore and aft.
