and I really like the stability of the A-frame. I attached the forward side stays to the top of the frame and that left the forestay available to attach while the A-frame was still holding the total weight of the (then-raised) mast. And like Greg says, DON'T LET ANYONE UNDER IT WHEN YOU'RE RAISING!!!! I was using two shackles at the top of my frame (one for the main sheet tackle and one for the forward side stays) and I felt a little extra tension but dismissed it and kept pulling. There was so much mechanical advantage I broke one of those stainless shackles and dropped the mast right on my back rail from about 2/3 up. Turns out the middle side stay was binding on the back side stay attachment and just needed to be untangled. We were lucky no one was injured of killed. That's a big, heavy, unforgiving piece of aluminum there. It demands respect.
