Hi folks, I have been looking here for a while and learning lots a good info. I just got my "new" 1971 CM 21. It's deck is solid under foot and the general over all appearance is good to great. It has some minor cracking in the glass around a few of the the cleats and some minor grounding damage.
My main concern is the swing keel, this boat was sailed in salt water and the keel is rusted pretty bad, I just read a post about someones keel on a CM 21 that was so rusted it need to be replaced. The cost of replacement was to great and they are gonna scrap the boat. How do I know if my keel is up to par? It has some serious surface rust, but dose still move freely. I would like to scrape the keel and wire wheel/ grind it down, but cant see any way to drop the keel when the boat is on the trailer. Any one got a good Idea?
My last question is concerning the correct rigging of the main sail and jib. I am not a sailor and know almost nothing about sailing. I am on a tight budget so sailing lessons are out of the question. I would like a link or sight that goes over how to set up all the lines rigging ECT. I have the mast up and secure, It's the sail lines that confuse me.
Also this boat was a gift and has been in storage for over 10 years, The guy that put it in storage was the original owner. I believe he may have removed some stuff to store the boat,as there is a bag of pulleys and strange parts I cant identify. There is no asking the orignal owner as he has passed on. I would love to get this boat back on the watter and any help or ideas for thing to check/ look over would be a huge help.
