In Response To: Raising A Stable Mast (Vince)

Hi Vince, I've been reading all the comments on jin poles and a frames and

The only comment I want to make is, the two foreward shrouds should be hooked to the eye bolt on the top of the a -frame. This will pull the mast up

from the attachment points at the spreaders, leaving the forestay free to be attached once the mast is fully erect, having been erect 4 hours or not.

I use my purchase that functions as a preventer for down wind runs, not using the main sheet purchase, but either one will work. However the a frame

deal uses about 50- 55 feet of line on the purchase, that's why I don't use the main purchase. I did add two feet of stainless tubing to my mast crutch and added a roller at the top, I drilled it to make it go up high for raising the mast, and about a foot above the stern rail for transport, I found that the mast raises just a s well from either position. If you store the boat with it up higher it makes it easy to get in and out of the hatch.

My 2 cents worth, Tom cm26
