Back when I had asked about this issue, using Mike Laine's info on the A Frame I wasn't sure it would work so well. I actually did not use my chain plates, but instead added two eye bolts near them bracing underneath the deck with plywood. I use my main purchase and tie an extra length of line to it in order for it to reach back to the cockpit. I use my main halyard attached to the eye bolts, and the main purchase to the front of the deck to the A Frame. I do have a small lean as I raise or lower it, but as it lowers to the bow roller it pretty much is on center. When I raise it from the bow roller, I do find it much easier to lift it up a foot or so before the purchase begins to work smoothly. One of the responses indicated that the bow roller was made taller which is a good idea. Also a great thing about it, I think Mike Laine mentioned it was since the purchase has a cleat on it, you can easily cleat the line to free yourself to make any adjustments during the process.
It's great to not have to depend on a gin pole at the marina, or to be in line waiting to use it.
