Henry, You missed the point. Leroy wanted to know if I used the shrouds to steady the mast, or used people to hold mast lines as it was stepped. On days I lower it on the water, I simply lower it to a height I can easily reach by using the a-frame from the pop top then step down into the cockpit and center it to the cradle releasing the mainsheet slowly. There is moderate sway when the mast is almost horizontal and holding it while single handing is the best way to land it. The great thing about the a-frame method is that I use both forward shrouds attached to the frame, leaving nothing to chance. Don't for a minute presume I take any chances .... I have a grandson I want to take sailing when he comes of age. There are plenty of ways to kill myself when sailing, this won't be one of them. Cheers, Mike
