That is correct, there is no closed bilge. I did however drill a hole in the lower transom approx. 4 in. from center line and 1/2 in. up from the inner hull. I have done this on just about every boat I've had since I have never had one that came with a drain, O'day daysailer, or SanJuan 21. I noticed that the "bilge" area is divided into two halves by a plywood bulhead and when I drain water from the plug I put in, nothing drains on the other side. So, guess what I'm about to do. Well I don't want to drill another hole in the boat, so I think I'll crawl down and drill a crosshole through the bulkhead. That should allow for both sides to drain properly. I have also drilled 1/4 in. holes in the base of the vee-berth near the centerline and drained about ten gallons of water that I didn't even know was there. the boat had sat on the hard for a number of years with the bow lower than the transom. I will seal them up before next spring.
