For what it's worth, there is a large amount of foam under the entire vee-berth. It will most likely be of little or no use in a sinking. It may buy you a little time. Mine was completely waterlogged, so I drilled the holes and left the boat bow up for a month. That allowed the foam to dry out some. I'd like to remove it completely at some point. I like the idea of removing the interior furniture. Mine is rotted anyway and that seems a way to make more room for movement. I have a leaky window situation that needs dealing with first. I have water coming in underway from a number of places. They are; through the keel lock bolt hole(enlarged from wear), some weeping from the pivot bolt, a little splash from the keel cable opening and the one that bothers me the most is some weeping around the cockpit drain thru-hull. I've only had #179 out once, and these were my observations. As for a bilge pump, I feel the small electric pumps need a minimum of 1.5 inches of water to be of any use. That's alot of water, you would be looking for some place to... well, not sink. I know, I had 2 inches in less than an hour. Most of the issues have been addressed and waiting to try it again. For what it's worth.
