...and I thought it a bit daring to cross the Sea of Cortez with a 27 ft. sailing catamaran, crew of three, buddy boat, weeks worth of food, EPIRB, sea anchor, life boat, etc.
Wow....!
Be careful of the currents in that neck of the woods.
During slack water, we anchored off one of the islands, around there, for a scuba dive.
When we started the dive there was a mild current.
When we got to the bottom, we re-set the anchor by hand, wedging it securely between some large rocks\ and then proceeded to scuba, mostly in the tidal "lee" of the island.
By the time we finished the hour long dive, which included scuba'ing along the bottom on our way back to where the anchor was. By the time we got there, we were clinging to every rock and bolder we could find and clawing our way back to the anchor. As we ascended that anchor line, I swear it was singing as the water rushed by and it was very hard to hang onto.
Once we got on the boat, we noticed how dangerous it had really become
We had violated one of the cardinal rules of diving open water from a boat...that is we left no one aboard so if we missed the boat...we would have looked forward to drinks in Cabo San Lucas or perhaps Panama ...or more realistically, a very dismal demise.
Be careful and right now I'd appreciate more detailed information about your proposed trip, preparations, itinerary, equipment, safeguards, etc. Then after you get back, certainly how it went.
Some of us, who are between sailing and goof-off seasons would appreciate the diversion from office work and simply wishing we were doing some of that...
