The base map that comes in Garmin GPS's has very good coverage of the land masses in the Sea. I have a 176 in the boat, a newer Etrex, and recently stolen GPS3+. This is all I have used for the last five years with no problem. I have found the land references to be, at most about +/- 3 Nautical miles off. I have personally sailed thru Punta Conception on the map several times. Surprisingly many anchorages and Harbors are featured on the base map, and for macro navigation it is great. I haven't seen a need to upgrade beyond what comes with the GPS's but I supplement my info with Gerry's Charts for anchorage depths, etc.
