I really appreciate all your ideas and advice. This baja forum is great. Does any one know how to estimate tides times for the middle of the channel, ie out in the midriff islands. My Idea has always been to leave for each leg at the tail end of the out going tide so that I will cross during the calm between tides and if I am too slow I'll be pushed north instead of south. With calm winds it is possible to set up a ferry angle into the current and make suprising good time across the current in the direction one wants to go. Yes , I have heard that the islands are all now bird sanctuaries though I have seen pictures of nice beaches on the islands. I am planning to camp so I'll make each leg of the crossing in the early morning hours
