Since about 1988, we've visited San Carlos often and never had a problem with theft. However, it does happen from time to time... such as the removal of things lashed to the boat's topside. There have also been occasions when boats have been broken into and things ripped right off the bulkheads, outboards taken, etc. Some of the folks who have boats moored there have installed intrusion alarm systems to discourage thieves and to alert others in the area.
There are also gated slips that help limit unwanted visitors to boats being kept there.
San Carlos is a great place and there is much more to enjoy than to fear.
Some precautions should be considered and one should always use prudence.
