That's just good common sense to get the 180 day visa and not the 8 day visa. But the original question was . . . if I don't return the visa to the same desk where I got it when I leave, what happens? Do the Mexican Federales come looking for me in the US? Does it effect my ability to enter Mexico the next time? As I recall, when leaving Mexico, the only government officials you have to deal with are US Customs and Immigration who could care less if you have a visa to enter Mexico, all they are interested in is if you are legal to enter the USA and what you are bringing into the US. If Tom T House does indeed have a stack of them, then he has been able to come and go without turning them back in. That sounds more like the truth. The Mexican Government probably wants you to turn them back in when you leave, but they can't do anything about it if you don't. Kind of like that little label on the bottom side of your mattress that says "Do not remove under penalty of law". I have yet to have anyone come to my home to check that I did not remove that label.
