IMPORTANT! DO NOT drive after dark in Mexico! The road from San Diego all the way to Cabo San Lucas is very good, but narrow and in most of the places has no shoulder. That may not seem like a big deal, but when you see on coming trucks, and on the right is a 30-foot drop off,…. Let’s just say it keeps you attention! Also, Mexico is not closed range. That means it is not uncommon to see cows meandering on the road.
Bahia de Los Angeles (BLA) is high up in the Sea. There is a lot of current & big tides. Just a note to consider. It also has some cold water up there.
If I was driving down, I would consider putting in at Porto Escondido. Close to a great town for provisions, and has a LOT of islands and anchorages very close by! A few within an hour or two, but make you feel like you are years away from civilization. Also, one of the best places in all of the Sea for storm protection.
We are in La Paz and LOVE it as a town to visit. We have made it our base during our Mexico cruising. La Paz has the best (and most) boating support in Mexico.
If I were doing a closed end trip, I think I would consider putting in at La Paz, then driving my road rig back up to Escondico (has a fenced parking area) or higher and take the bus back, then sailing SLOWLEY up that direction.
We are here in La Paz, any question, just ask!
