Hi all, I thought I would post a few things about the recent hurricane experience we just had here in La Paz Mexico.
Here is a set of videos to compare & contrast a hurricane event without and with proper preparation, and one with good preparation, at the same location.
The first video is of marina de La Paz during hurricane Marty. It struck on Sept. 22, 2003. It shows what DID, and CAN happen if the boat owners do not prepare well. You can view it at:

The second video is of hurricane John. As you most likely know, it hit us Sept. 2, 2006. This video shows what happens with proper preparation! You can view it at:

A couple of other items of interest.
We like multiple smaller lines instead of fewer large lines. Some stretch is good and redundancy is very good.
We used double chafe gear. That is, each line had store bought chafe gear on it, and then we put old fire hose over that as a second layer. We had NO chafe problems at all.
The last item, look at your dock gates! Marina de La Paz has metal keys to enter the docks. Two of the other marinas here use electric locks for the gates. They require an access card to get in OR OUT! Once the power died (early on) a lot of people where trapped on the docks! No one was hurt, but this could have been very bad.
