Que Pasa?
Then I am surprised you are giving out such outdated information to new people making their first trip down to this wonderful cruising area. Congratulations on your extensive cruising. Obviously you must enjoy it down here as much as we do.
We find that the process of “checking in” added to our overall cruising experience. We know checking in and out of each port used to be required and would cost at each stop. The new way is such a great leap forward for all of the cruisers here. We should ALL help get the word out and show how much we like this new system. It took many years to come this far.
To this day, WE still check in and out with the local port captain of the area we are in. We simply call on the VHF. Some times they say thank-you, sometimes they say OK, and at times they don’t even answer.
As to the port captains being ungracious, we still exchange email with a couple of them we met along the way! We once checked in and were given a 2-hour, 30-mile, tour of the town. We were driven us all over and shown the highlights.
If you read our “Position Reports” on our WEB pages you will see how one port captain, when he found I had a tooth ach, drove us over 60 miles (each way) to a dentist!
It may be that we are treated in the same manner that we treat others?
