Another amazing stoke of luck for these fellows ......... Oct 12, 13, and 14th were the absolute best time of the month to sink a boat. There was hardly any movement in tide change being a neap tide. The San Felipe tide usually flows 4 - 6 knots when it moves and leaves a wake behind an anchored boat. They would have never been able to swim to it unless perfectly lined up. I've missed the rock by compass on a moonless night, without figuring the tide, by 5 miles. Now I use a GPS which shows the drift. That fact alone makes these guys lucky to be alive. Power boats don't have the same problem as they plane above, but sailors, with the slow progression and keel drag ...... be sure to add the tide factor when sailing the north Cortez or sinking your boat. I'm glad they made it.
