In Response To: A most excellent adventure... (Tom T. House, Salsa (Stiletto 27))

I forgot to add...we've started making a point to carry a hand pump desalinator as a back up plan to the fresh water we bring or think we will have access to during our adventures on the Sea of Cortez. When stuck on the sea, something that floats and something to stay warm and dry, something to signal with and something to drink can make all the difference in the world.

You may also be aware of the strong winds and high seas that can develop without much warning and there are currents that can hit you in some areas at some times. These currents are being caused by the high and low tides and the shape of the Sea of Cortez...and are especially strong near the Midriff Island. However, they can be found at any place where the tidal flow is restricted by things you can see such as islands or things you don't see such as sea mounts and valleys in the bottom of the sea.

These currents can be very helpful if you are going the same direction they are or they can be hrtful and so strong you can't get out of them when they are going in the opposite direction you want to go...

The Sea of Cortez is a very beautiful place but like any body of water,it also has a side you must respect and it is better if you are familiar with it and its moods and are compotent and prepared...
