Once your boat is cleared in at Ensenada you need not check in/out of any other mexican ports until you leave the country, then you need to get a despacho. When going from port to port in Mexico you are supposed to leave a note with the local marina as to your destination- in case of problems. The marina in SC has a drop box on the front of the building for this, you can do it after hours, etc. I have been to Santa Rosalia and Escondido since the change and didn't do anything in Escondido but left a note on a form at the marina office in Santa Rosalia at the same time I paid for my slip- very convenient. I am hearing that the other ports in the SOC have slightly differing procedures but none require any paperwork with the port captain. This new system is a blessing and allows us to visit beautiful towns like Santa Rosalia and spend our money there.
